The Hi-Meadows Apartments promotes independent living among our residents in a community atmosphere. Hi-Meadows offers the privacy of your own apartment with the luxury of the Meadows staff nearby. All applicants must meet USDA/ Rural Development requirements.


BACKGROUND

The Hi-Meadows Apartments are owned and operated by ECUMENICAL ENTERPRISES, INC. (EEI), a non-profit corporation, established in 1968, with seed money contributed by the First Presbyterian Church of Wilkes-Barre, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, the Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes-Barre, and the Metropolitan Lutheran council of Wyoming Valley. The Hi-Meadows Apartments are for low and moderate income elderly with rentals subsidized through the USDA, Rural Development. The building contains 36 one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom apartments, with several units able to accommodate handicapped and disabled persons.


LOCATION

Situated near College Misericordia in Dallas Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, these apartments are part of the Meadows complex that also contains the Meadows Nursing Center, The Meadows Manor and Meadows Apartments for low income elderly. They are located in an ideal suburban area with a serene environment, and conveniently near shopping areas, churches, public transportation and recreational facilities.


ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. All applicants must be 62 years of age or older, or in the case of a married couple, either spouse must be at least 62 or over.
  2. Handicapped and disabled persons as identified by USDA, Rural Development may also be eligible.
  3. Individual or family income must be within the prescribed limits established by USDA, Rural Development.
  4. All applicants must accept the terms of a written lease and related building regulations as prescribed by EEI and USDA, Rural Development. Final admission is based upon the above criteria without regard to race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.


MONTHLY RENTALS

Rentals are based upon 30% of monthly income, or basic rent, whichever is higher, but no higher than market rent. Tenant must pay for utilities, except water and sewer. A utility allowance is applied.
